The far west point of İzmir . . .
Çeşme named Cysus in the Roman age had been the quay of Eritrai, one of the 12 lonian cities. The trade developed in the 8th century BC had made Çeşme together with Eritrai one of the leading ports of the East Mediterranean. The ships operating among Cyprus, Sakız(Chios) and Çeşme had oriented mainly the markets of wine and slaves. Çeşme being the far west point of İzmir extending to the Aegean Sea is one of the important entry and exit points of Turkey in the maritime transportation today. The trips between Çeşme-Chios organised everyday in summer constitue a bridge between Turkey and Greece. This wonderful peninsula extending to the Aegean Sea offers excellent sunsets  in each season..


The Ottoman castle has the leading role . . .

The houses of Çeşme side by side, without any garden, with shutters, constructed with stone and a special plaster technique are typical “Aegean Houses” and the Castle is a typical Ottoman one...
The castle built at the beginning of the 16th century during the reign of Beyazıt II to defend Çeşme and the horbour has a perfect position dominating both the land and the sea looked in the distance. It has the leading role with its rectangular plan, two rows of city walls within each other constituting the Inner and Outer Castle and six towers!
